Program Overview
The Community Development program will provide you with the theoretical knowledge and skills required for leadership in the community sector. You will learn to work in partnership with communities to build their capacity, resilience and self-determination.
Objectives
  • Learners are expected to analyze the various theoretical frameworks and approaches in working with various stakeholders, within their own socio-political and economic contexts and in relation to their present and intended future involvements.
  • Be able to appropriately and meaningfully translate development concepts and principles into strategic plans of action.
Community Development Program
The diploma and advanced diploma program is designed for those students seeking a two-year rather than four-year degree. The program stand alone but may also be the foundation for further study at the bachelor’s level. The program at AIES are meant to be taken in four semesters and consist of 60 credit hours.
Diploma (Level 4)
First Semester
CD 101 - Introduction to Community Development | 3 credits
CD 102 - Communication and Leadership Skills | 3 credits
POLI 100 - Introduction to International Politics | 3 credits
COMP 101 - Introduction to Computer Science | 3 credits
ENG 101 - English Composition | 3 credits



Second Semester
CD 106 - Planning Health Promotion Programs | 3 credits
CD 108 - The Role of Ethics in Community Development | 3 credits
CD 201 - Successful Partnerships in Community Development | 3 credits
CD 203 - Seeking Funding For Community Projects | 3 credits
CD 205 - Understanding Diversity and Inclusion | 3 credits

Program duration: Two semesters. Each semester is 5 months long with approximately 40 hours per week.

Assessment methods: In order to complete the program successfully, students will be required to pass all subjects and achieve an overall passing grade.

Certification: To be awarded the certificate you must satisfactorily complete all written contributions. Successful students will receive a Certificate, awarded by the Board of Studies of AIES. A transcript detailing the course will be issued to successful students.
